David L. Walker, 69, of Jefferson, passed at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson on Monday, February 28, 2022. He was born on February 02, 1953, in Fort Dodge, to Jim and Betty Walker. He married Linda Lopour on July 15, 1973 in Rolfe.
Dave had a long career being a custodian for the Greene County School District. He started at the South Grade, transferred to the Middle School and ended his career at the High School. Many students and faculty remember his kindness and that he was always willing to go the extra mile. His wall of senior pictures was impressive. A favorite part of his job while at the high school was setting up for special events because it gave him the opportunity to meet people he admired. Among his favorites were Hawkeye coaches Hayden Fry and Kirk Ferenz, and President Barack Obama. He also spent many fall seasons working at Deal’s Orchard. He loved watching the orchard grow and all of the people he met there.
He was known for his love of gardening. His goal was to have more flowers and plants than yard and he succeeded. He was an expert in many flowers, but especially hostas, having close to 200 different varieties around his house. He loved helping others. He took care of the 700 S. Oak St block, making sure that all lawns were mowed, flowers planted, and snow was scooped.
Dave was a member of the Jefferson Elks Lodge #2306 and made many great friendships through the club. He was also a member of the Tuesday night cribbage club, where he was one of the longest standing members. He was a passionate Hawkeye fan through and through. Go Hawks!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Linda’s parents, brother-in-law Jim Green, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Survivors include his wife Linda Walker, daughter Amy (Chris) Milligan, son Jim Walker, and granddaughters Avery and Addison Walker, all of Jefferson; sister Dawn (Steve) Fravel of Ankeny; niece Erin (Chris) LaBelle of Runnells; nephew Jeremy (Becca) Green of Pleasant Hill; brother Ken (Mona) Walker of Naples, FL; and many more family members and friends.
Services were arranged by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson.
